Another successful beer can race

 June 24, 2026

This evening of sailing will be hard to top. Not only did the summer evening bring pleasant temperatures on the water, but the wind from the west-southwest also left nothing to be desired. Gabi, Malin, and I were sweating under our life jackets, but we pulled off a “Horizon Job” on the Schlei. Sailing was just plain fun!

We got off to a great start, having used the slight lefty to our advantage. With course 1 designated and a course shortcut in effect, we were the first to reach the windward mark and were able to maintain our lead—sailing under spinnaker—until we reached the navigation buoys off Fahrdorf. Then we were overtaken by the X-34. The rest of the field simply fell behind. We stayed relatively close to the X-34, but on the long upwind leg back to the finish, Tim
managed to pull ahead of us by 2:50 min. Sönke on the Bandholm 33 was calculated to have finished second, though we managed to pull ahead of him by an impressive 4:10 min. That was a huge lead, and we were calculated to have finished first. Wulf Dippel on the H-35 came in fifth, 8:21 min behind us, so we’re back in the lead—with or without discard results—in the annual standings.
